In addition to encouraging the adoption of low-carbon lifestyles that reduce greenhouse gases and save resources, we can also contribute to neutralizing greenhouse gases by using the Carbon Credit.
Carbon credits and carbon markets are part of national and international efforts to minimize the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere. Because greenhouse gas mitigation projects generate credits, this approach can be used to sell among trading partners worldwide.
A carbon credit is a certificate that represents the right to emit one tonne of carbon dioxide (CO2) or other greenhouse gas synthesized as the equivalent of one tonne of CO2 (tCO2e).
Carbon credits have become a common type of transaction for countries to comply with and fulfill the Kyoto Protocol, typically reducing carbon emissions and preventing climate change. To put it simply, an organization would be required to have a set amount(tons) of carbon released into the environment, and when the amount is exceeded, it would have to buy “empty” carbon from another organization in order not to incur additional fines and taxes. Carbon credits are divided into two types:
One is the regulated market, which is set by “limit and trade” regulations.
The other type is the voluntary market where businesses and individuals buy credit (on their own terms) to offset the carbon emissions that arise.
However, for Vietnam’s forest potential as well as knowledge of this type of trading that is not widely available, this is a great opportunity for the voluntary market. (In Vietnam and neighboring countries, there have also been provinces and businesses that buy and sell Credits but they have hardly been noticed.)

Many different types of businesses can create and sell carbon credits by reducing, capturing and storing emissions through different processes:
- Renewable energy projects.
- Improve energy efficiency.
- Carbon capture and sequestration.
- Land use and reforestation.
For Garden Universe, the project prioritizes creating carbon credits using land and reforestation. Protect and restore old-growth forests, create new forests, and manage land by using Mother Nature’s carbon sinks, trees, and soil, to absorb carbon from the atmosphere.
Plants in the Garden Universe will be treated in real life and convert CO2 from the atmosphere into organic matter through photosynthesis.
The economic resources of forests are huge when it is estimated that Vietnam can earn hundreds of millions of dollars annually just by selling ~57 million carbon credits to international organizations. From 2021, Vietnam is required to implement emission reductions as committed in the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Moreover, the development of the domestic Carbon Credit Market is one of the economic tools that has been included in the Law on Environmental Protection (amended) passed by the National Assembly in early 2022.
It can be seen that the Carbon Credit is a significant contribution to the development of the country’s economy and strengthening the fight against climate change and reducing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This is also a trade sector that raises humanity in a situation of constant global warming, a complete economy for the “Green Planet”!
